CEREC Same-Day Crowns

A custom ceramic crown designed, milled, and placed in a single visit. No temporary crown, no second appointment, no goopy impressions.

A traditional crown usually means two visits: messy impressions, weeks in a temporary, and a second appointment (with a second round of numbing) to cement the final restoration. CEREC same-day crowns compress all of that into one visit. We take a digital scan, design your crown on screen, and mill it from a solid ceramic block right here in our office, then fit and bond it before you leave.

Who this is for

CEREC is a good fit for many situations that call for a crown: a tooth cracked from an old, large filling; a tooth broken down by decay; or one that’s simply worn and needs full coverage to protect it long-term. Not every case is right for a same-day crown. In the specific situations where a lab-made crown or another approach is the better long-term choice, we’ll tell you and explain why.

What a same-day visit looks like

We start with a digital scan of the tooth using our Primescan scanner, a quick, comfortable process with a small wand, no impression putty, no gagging, no waiting for a mold to set. If the tooth needs numbing first, we use the STA Wand, a computer-controlled anesthesia system that delivers it more gently and precisely than a standard syringe. From the scan, we design your crown on screen to match your bite and the shape of the surrounding teeth, then mill it right there in the office from a solid block of ceramic while you wait. Once it’s milled, we try it in, check your bite, and bond it in place, all in the same appointment.

Materials built to last

We mill CEREC crowns from proven, high-strength ceramics, primarily e.max and Katana, chosen for their combination of strength and a natural, tooth-like appearance. Because the crown is designed from your exact digital scan rather than a physical mold, the fit is precise from the start.

Why patients love CEREC

  • One visit. Done in hours, not weeks.
  • No impression goop. A comfortable 3D digital scan instead.
  • No temporary crown. And no second appointment or second numbing to fit it in.
  • Precise fit. Designed digitally from your exact scan.
  • Proven materials. Milled from high-strength ceramics like e.max and Katana.

Same-day crowns are part of our investment in technology that makes care easier on patients here in Thousand Oaks. If a tooth is cracked, heavily filled, or broken, call us; often a CEREC crown can fix it in a single morning. See real crown cases from our practice in our cases gallery.

Common questions

How can a crown be done in one day?

CEREC technology lets us take a digital scan of your tooth with our Primescan scanner, design the crown on screen, and mill it from a solid ceramic block right in our office. You leave with your permanent crown the same day.

Are same-day crowns as strong as lab-made crowns?

CEREC crowns are milled from high-strength dental ceramics. We use proven materials like e.max and Katana, and they’re a well-established, durable restoration. In the specific situations where a lab-made crown is the better choice, we’ll recommend that instead.

Do I still need a temporary crown?

No, and skipping the temporary is one of the best parts. There’s no second visit, no second round of numbing, and no temporary to lose or break in between.
