The first visit sets the tone for everything that follows, so we don’t rush it. Your comprehensive exam builds a complete picture of your oral health: teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints, existing dental work, and the oral-systemic factors at the heart of our Complete Health philosophy. It’s also simply the best way for a new dentist to actually get to know your mouth, rather than working off guesswork or an outdated chart from somewhere else.
What we look at
- Digital X-rays, only the ones you actually need, reviewed with you on screen so you can see exactly what we see
- A digital scan with our Primescan wand when we need a detailed model of your bite, no trays of goopy impression material
- Oral cancer screening
- Periodontal (gum) measurements
- Tooth-by-tooth exam and bite evaluation
- Airway and grinding screening
- Your history, your concerns, your goals, and honestly, time to just talk
Who’s doing your exam
Both of our dentists have practiced for 20+ years, so you’re not the first patient to walk in with anxiety, an old filling that’s failed twice, or a list of questions you’re embarrassed to ask. Ask them anyway. You’ll get clear findings and a few honest options, never a pressured sales pitch. We’re an independent, doctor-owned practice here in Thousand Oaks, and our focus has always been quality over quantity, we’d rather see fewer patients well than rush through a full schedule.
Getting ready
If you’re transferring from another dentist, bring or request that your prior X-rays be sent over, it saves you from retaking films we can otherwise reuse. Once your visit is booked, we’ll send a link to fill out your health history and paperwork online, no printed forms on a waiting-room clipboard. And if something comes up before your appointment, or after hours, a real person answers our phone, not a machine, so you’re never stuck waiting on a callback.

Common questions
What happens at a new patient exam?
A complete evaluation: necessary X-rays, an oral cancer screening, gum measurements, an exam of every tooth and your bite, and a real conversation about your history, concerns, and goals. You’ll leave understanding exactly where your mouth stands.
How long does the first visit take?
Plan for a thorough, unhurried visit. Comprehensive exams take longer than a quick check because we’re building a complete picture of your health.
Will I get a cleaning at the first visit?
Often yes, when time and your gum health allow. If your gums need a different type of cleaning, we’ll explain why and schedule the right one.
Do you take my insurance?
We work with most PPO plans and are in-network with Delta Dental Premier. Call us and we’ll verify your coverage for free before your visit.
Why do I need X-rays if my teeth feel fine?
X-rays reveal cavities forming between teeth and changes in bone and gum health that can’t be seen or felt from the surface. They also give us a baseline image of your mouth to compare against at future visits, so we can catch changes early.
